1B Media Language update

TBC
Briefly:
the overall point is what specific media language makes your text recognisably a music video? M.Lang takes in narrative, representations, editing, mise-en-scene, sound, shots, so as the existing guide highlights, you've got a lot of options for this
A couple of things I'd definitely use though: Vernallis; postmodern theory.

The whole point of Vernallis' book, Experiencing Music Video, is to examine what, if anything, makes the language of music video distinctive. Her key point is that images are subservient to the sound; the sound comes first, then the images and editing are thought through, and matched to the sound in some way. You've got notes in 2 of the MANGeR guides on Vernallis; I might add more in a separate post.
All media forms can be seen as showing some signs of postmodern approaches, but the music video is perhaps the ultimate postmodern media format: extremely intertextual, including borrowing from multiple other media; simulacra obviously; often blurring the high/popular culture divide; inviting UGC responses which blur the very idea of 'a text' and any audience/producer divide (web 2.0..)
